Rape and Sexual Assault

Owen Beattie Solicitors have extensive experience and specialism in providing strategic and tailored legal advice and representation to individuals accused of rape and sexual assault.

In particular, we frequently provide strategic legal advice and representation to individuals at initial investigation and interview stage, following notification from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) that an investigation has commenced. We adopt a proactive approach, and liaise with investigators at the earliest possible stage. When clients are faced with allegations of rape or sexual assault, such an approach is vital, in order to secure either a “no prosecution” decision or the most favourable outcome for clients.

Many of our clients facing such allegations have had no prior involvement with the criminal justice system, and Owen Beattie Solicitors frequently represent students and professionals, such as engineers, teachers, those in management positions and other professionals.

The strategic and tailored approach adopted by Owen Beattie Solicitors in dealing with such offences is complimented by working closely with an experienced and dedicated team, including leading barristers, and a variety of experts, who are able to comment on forensic evidence.

  • Representation of a student, accused of rape, during interviews under caution, resulting in a “no prosecution” decision by the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).

  • Unreported case – representation of a professional, now resident outside of Northern Ireland, from initial interview under caution, accused of historical sexual abuse, including rape, from childhood. A prosecution decision is currently awaited.
